This weekend I went for a bike ride to the Ahr valley. For everybody having enough time in the Bonn region the Air valley it a good place to visit. I started my tour in Bad Honnef, and went by boat over the Rhine. Then up the hill straight across to Altenahr. On the way I went the whole way was full of fruit farms and I was astonished that these farms there. I never saw the region a a farming / fruit producing area.
After an hour I reached Altenahr. I came form the top of the vineyard and visited the ruins of the old castle Are. It is like in a travel catalogue. In between the vineyards there is a hill and on top there is the castle.
From there you can walk down to the village centre where there are so many nice restaurants and if you love vine, the the valley of the Ahr is a must.
I really love the vine there, but it is hard to get outside the region. We prefer to drink the vine ourself an do not export it too much…
If you then have the time to cycle to the mouth of the Ahr into the Rhine, then you get a really nice bike path along the river. It is especially nice as they used an old train rout, including its tunnels as the bike path. You continuously ride along the vineyards and the landscape is really nice.
So if you are close there, then visit the place.
